The Wilshire Resignation

David Wilshire has announced his intention not to seek re-election next year in view of the allegations he faces over fees paid to an unregistered company owned by his partner, Ann Palmer, and himself.

In the print edition of today's Daily Telegraph it stated "The Telegraph has established that, between 2005 and 2008 Mr. Wilshire paid up to £3,250 a month to the business. Extra invoices were also submitted and the total paid to the firm was £105,000. However there is no official record of the company's existence and it has never filed public accounts."

Resigning before he was 'resigned' by the electorate is, no doubt, the right solution but to complain that the allegations are deeply hurtful is a case of 'crocodile tears'. David Wilshire may well feel 'hard done by', as do many MPs, but as I have blogged previously, all MPs should feel remorse as it seems that most of what they claimed in additional allowances, the scams of avoiding capital gains tax, purchases of plasma tvs, furniture and the rest were as a result of a lack of probity and personal honour.

To all those MPs that have been 'cleared', or are awaiting clearance, there is one simple fact and that is that they still have to face their constituents. Better for them that they 'cleanse' themselves completely and pay back everthing they feel should not have been claimed in the first place. They need to remember one simple lesson and remember it well.

That lesson is - don't bite the hand that feeds you!
